Swim. Bike. Run. May It Ever Wave.

I remember the Bicentennial in 1976.
I was only five years old, so I don’t remember every detail. But I remember the feeling. Flags were everywhere. Everything seemed to be red, white, and blue. There was excitement in the air, even for a kid who didn’t fully understand what all the celebration meant.
Now here we are, fifty years later, getting ready to celebrate America’s 250th birthday.
And it feels different.
Maybe that is because I am fifty years older. Maybe it is because the world has changed. Maybe it is because, over time, you start to understand that freedom is not just a word you see on a sign or hear in a speech. It is something you live. Something you are given. Something worth remembering.
This summer, you can walk into almost any store and see red, white, and blue everywhere. Shirts. Hats. Flags. Decorations. America 250 is coming, and the colors are already showing up.
So yes, I decided to join in. But I wanted to do it in a way that felt like Qavah. Not loud. Not just another flag shirt.
I wanted to create something that connected the stars and stripes with the sport we love. A simple tribute to the United States, to the freedom we still enjoy, and to the endurance lifestyle that keeps calling us forward.
Swim. Bike. Run.
Three simple words. Three disciplines. One way so many of us test ourselves, challenge ourselves, and celebrate what we are able to do.
The stars and stripes still mean something. They still carry the idea of freedom, courage, sacrifice, and possibility. And for those of us who love endurance sports, that freedom includes the open water, the long road, the quiet miles, the early mornings, the finish lines, and everything in between.
This shirt is my small ode to that.
To America.
To the freedom to move.
To the athletes who keep showing up.
And to the sport we love.
Swim. Bike. Run.
May it ever wave.
